Vivienne Lang ~ Photographic Artist and Author
Vivienne Lang (nee Kelly) has been celebrating sea life and the plant world through her
photography for over two decades.
Since graduating in 2006 from Queensland
College of Art, Griffith University with First Class Honours, Lang’s photographic artworks have been recognised in multiple publications including the Australian Photography and Gallery
Compendium and international contemporary photography portfolio magazine Silvershotz. Her
works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and acquired for collections such as the Daryl Hewson Collection and the Mater Mothers’ Hospital Art Collection, Brisbane,
Queensland.
Early influences in life led to Lang’s deep appreciation for the ocean and plants. Lang comments: “My sisters and I were blessed with extraordinary parents, both igniting curiosity
and creativity in us.
My father, Dr Grahame Kelly, is a plant physiologist specialising in photosynthesis. I can remember clearly travelling with him to the CSIRO marine laboratories in Hobart, Tasmania, and witnessing the iridescent green algae that was growing in beakers that were slowly rotating on great silver shelves, and then sitting in front of a large screen with my father’s colleague, internationally recognised marine microalgae specialist, Emeritus Professor Gustaaf Hallegraeff, who was photographing microplankton using an electron microscope, something he continues to do.”
Lang creates photographic images that express the relationship between plants, light and photography, always with a focus on and inspiration from life in the sea.
